Core Beliefs

Non-denominational Bible believing Christian

These core beliefs are reflected in my birth education and doula services.

BIRTH DESIGN:

A woman's body is beautifully designed by God to grow, birth and nurture a baby. The innate God-given desire and bodily function within a woman for motherhood is absolutely awing! Therefore, pregnancy and birth is not a medical event but a physiological process and it long impacts a woman's body and heart. In our current medical culture, to have a physiological birth entails educating, preparing, advocating and surrounding yourself with like-minded care and support.

BIRTH EXPERIENCE:

We want a healthy mama and a healthy baby, however, we should also desire a healthy birth experience. In the end, it doesn't matter whether a baby is born vaginally, with or without interventions, or by C-section; what matters is for a woman to be fully informed, respected in her autonomy and deeply supported so she may have a positive birth experience.

BIRTH RISKS AND RESPONSIBILITY:

We will never fully eliminate risks from birth even when we allow the birth process to be as physiological as possible. This is simply due to the weakness of our flesh and genetics, and has nothing to do with our believing and trust in God. Complications may arise during birth, many of which the body self corrects when left alone but some require necessary medical intervention for the safety and wellbeing of mother and baby. It is our responsibility each for ourselves and our individual birth situations to find the balance between two extremes: over medicalizing birth and freebirthing without the presence of any medical professional. There is a respectable middle ground but that line will be slightly different for each birthing mother based on her unique situation.

BIRTH SETTING AND CARE PROVIDER:

Every pregnant woman goes through a decision process of where to give birth and with whom to receive care from. The birth setting best suited and safe for undisturbed physiological birth is at home with a certified professional and licensed midwife (CPM/LM). However, for multivarious reasons couples may choose or necessitate a birth center or hospital instead. Your body will innately follow the physiological birthing process no matter what birth setting you choose, yet disruptions and interventions DO greatly impact the process. Consideration of each birth setting, along with choosing the right care provider is crucial to decreasing the amount of disturbances and interventions in order to better experience physiological birth. By asking questions and inquiring about a care provider’s service, you’ll get an idea of whether a care provider, including an OB doctor, has or hasn't an understanding and respect for physiological birth. Did you know most OB doctors have never witnessed a true physiological birth?? I encourage you to go to God and trust Him while exploring birth settings and care provider options available in your area, even if it takes longer to find the best fit for you.

BIRTH STORIES:

While birth stories may be listened to as a wonderful source of encouragement, the birth experience itself should not be taken as principle or tried to be duplicated. Just as each baby is individually unique, every birth is unique and personal to the woman experiencing it. Instead, we should glean the principles and educational tidbits from birth stories and apply as appropriate. I lovingly implore you to trust God's ability to shower blessings and miracles specially for you and your baby in your own birth experience; God is that big, loving and individual.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
